Similarities And Similarities Between Langston Hughes And...

In this paper I will be talking about the similarities and differences in the two different poems. The two poems were written by two incredible poets and were probably one of the best in their lifetimes. The first poem is written by Walt Whitman and is called â€Å" I Hear America Singing†. The other poem is by Langston Hughes and is called â€Å"I, Too, Sing America† .Many people believe that Langston Hughes wrote his poem â€Å"I, Too, Sing America† in response to Walt Whitmans poem â€Å" I Hear America Singing†. Some people have a completely opposite opinion and say that the two poems have nothing to with each other. Langston Hughes did many things in his life. In the second s tanza he says â€Å" Tomorrow, I’ll be at the table when company comes. Nobody’ll dare say to me, â€Å"Eat in the Kitchen,† then†. He talks about the future when he is a well known poet and everyone will be treated equally, he will be treated the same as the people who used to treat him horribly. The two poems also share a lot of similarities. The first and most obvious similarity is the titles. The two titles I Hear America Singing and I, Too, Sing America both have America singing, or singing about America. In the two poems the poets talk about what they think America is at the time they lived. In Walt Whitman`s he talks about how Americans work together and do good at their jobs to make a great country. In the poem by Hughes he talks about what is wrong with how Americans think discrimination is right and he wants America to be like the way Whitman described it which is Americans helping each other build and sustain their country. The two poets have a lot of love for their country and really want to see America as a safe and unified country.
